Ametrine
As its name implies, this gemstone is a combination of amethyst and citrine with a beautiful purple and yellow hue. Ametrine is also called bolivianite because it has been designated as the national gemstone of Bolivia, which is where most of the world’s supply of naturally-occurring ametrine is produced.
The color in both amethyst and citrine comes from iron impurities in the crystals. These bi-colored quartz beads are usually cut in a rectangle or other elongated shape with purple on one end and yellow on the other. If an amethyst is heated to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, it will become a citrine.
This process can also be used to create bi-colored quartz beads. When one end of an amethyst crystal is heated to between 350 and 400 degrees Fahrenheit, it becomes ametrine, and the crystal will be purple on one end and yellow on the other.
